Video and Audio Troubleshooting

Diagnose media codec support, memory pressure, long processing times and output compatibility.

Updated August 27, 2026

A video or audio extension identifies its container, but the media inside can use different codecs. Processing can fail when the browser cannot decode the source, cannot encode the requested output, or runs short of memory.

Unsupported codec or format

MP4, MOV, WebM and other containers can hold different video and audio codecs. Two files with the same extension may behave differently. Exporting a fresh copy with a broadly supported codec can resolve the problem.

Processing is slow

Video conversion and compression may decode and re-encode many frames. Duration, resolution, frame rate, codec and device speed all affect processing time. Audio decoding also depends on browser media support.

Memory or tab problems

  1. Process one file or a shorter clip.
  2. Reduce output resolution, quality or duration.
  3. Close memory-heavy tabs and applications.
  4. Keep the tab active and the device awake.
  5. Retry after reloading the tool.

Some video tools download a browser-side media runtime before the first operation. A failed runtime request can prevent processing even though the user file itself is not uploaded.

Output compatibility

The browser may choose or support only certain output combinations. Check the result before sharing it, and try a more broadly supported format when a recipient or platform cannot play it.
