Image Troubleshooting

Resolve image decoding, dimensions, transparency, quality, color and metadata issues.

Updated August 31, 2026

If an image fails, confirm its real format, file size and pixel dimensions. If a result looks wrong, check the selected output format, quality setting, dimensions and transparency support.

The image will not open

  • The extension may not match the actual data.
  • The file can be truncated or damaged.
  • The browser may not decode that AVIF or other format variant.
  • Extremely large dimensions can exceed safe canvas or pixel limits.

Use Image Dimensions Checker for its supported header formats, or export a fresh JPG or PNG from the source application.

Quality changed

JPG and many WebP settings use lossy compression. Lower quality creates a smaller file but can introduce blur, blocks or banding. Resizing permanently changes pixel dimensions. Compare the output at its intended display size and keep the original.

Transparency changed

JPG cannot store transparent pixels. Transparent areas must be flattened to a background color when converting to JPG. Use PNG or a transparency-capable WebP workflow when transparency must remain.

Metadata expectations

The current Remove EXIF Metadata tool supports JPG/JPEG and removes standard EXIF APP1 segments. It does not claim to remove every possible metadata segment or sanitize every image format.

If an image is important, inspect the downloaded result for dimensions, orientation, transparency, color and visible quality before replacing the source.
